State of Nevada Adopts Official Disability Guidelines Drug Formulary

September 9, 2025

The State of Nevada has officially adopted the Official Disability Guidelines (ODG) Drug Formulary to support evidence-based care in the workers’ compensation system, as mandated by Senate Bill 317 (SB317). Nevada is the 13th state to implement an ODG tool for managing workers’ compensation claims.

Passed during the 2025 Legislative session, SB317 requires the Nevada Division of Industrial Relations (DIR) to adopt the ODG Drug Formulary. To allow time for training and phased implementation, DIR is formally adopting the formulary effective September 9, 2025, with a full implementation date of July 1, 2027.

The ODG Drug Formulary improves healthcare quality and efficiency by standardizing evidence-based prescribing practices. It promotes consistency among physicians, enhances patient outcomes, and helps insurers reduce costs by encouraging the use of effective, lower-cost medications. It also simplifies the approval process for providers, allowing them to focus more on patient care.

“The adoption of the ODG Drug Formulary is a major step forward in making Nevada’s workers’ compensation system more efficient and patient-centered,” said Victoria Carreón, Administrator of the Division of Industrial Relations. “By aligning treatment with evidence-based guidelines, we can reduce delays, improve outcomes, and ensure injured workers receive the right care at the right time.”

The basic formulary is available free of charge at: https://www.odgbymcg.com/state-formulary. Once fully implemented, it will apply to all non-emergency, outpatient services, with exceptions allowing insurers to approve non-formulary drugs. Denied requests may be appealed through the Nevada Hearings Division.
